Harry Mayhead Memorial

Harry Mayhead

Harry passed away aged 99 years old. He was formerly Pearly King of Blackfriars then succeeded to the title held by Tommy Johnson MBE, The Pearly King of Bow Bells. Harry was crowned in St Mary le Bow Church by Rector George Bush.

When Harry was presented to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 11 she asked if he had been waiting a long time to meet her, he replied “All my Life”. So Harry

He was a true gentleman and so very proud to be a Pearly King. He devoted his life to charity work and in turn raised thousands of pounds for deserving causes.

He will be sadly missed.

Costermongers Harvest Festival 2025

The Pearly Society Harvest festival in the Guildhall Yard September 21st 2025

The weather was kind to us yet again for our free flagship event of the year

With 30 Pearlies, 35 Mayors, Chelsea Pensioners, Lord Mayors and invited guests we were treated to a musical extravaganza of dancing from an array of Maypole dancing and Morris sides, singing with the rock choir and wonderful music from the RAF cadet band.

It all rounded off with the Pearlies singing some classic pub songs to which everyone heartily joined in.

With a short procession to St Mary le Bow church where we had a traditional harvest festival service and exited to the pealing of the Bow bells of London.

The day was not over yet as we made our way to the magnificent Lord Raglan pub where we enjoyed the hospitality of the manager Jayne and a superb buffet made by some of our Pearly Queens and helpers. More singing ensued  to everyone’s delight as the night wore on.

2026 date is Sunday September 20th
